CHURCH OF THE MARTYRS:
Building began in 1491 by order of the Catholic Kings. In the naves at the side are chapels holding the most beloved images of the Malaga Holy Week.
SAN FELIPE NERI CHURCH:
Built by the architect Martínez Aldehuela, who also built one of the other most famous monuments in the province: the Puente Nuevo (New Bridge) at Ronda.
ATARAZANAS MARKET:
Built on the Islamic shipyards. It still has the original iron at its gate from the Nazarí Era (XIV century).
PLAZA DE LA CONSTITUCIÓN:
After the Christian conquest this square was the hub of the town, as it was home to all of the main civil buildings. It was named in honour of the 1978 constitution.
PLAZA DE LA MERCED:
In the centre of the square is an obelisk placed there in 1842 to commemorate the shooting of General Torrijos. In the fifteenth century the square was the public market, and a leisure area for the bourgeoisie at the end of the nineteenth century. Nowadays it’s a meeting point for the city’s many university students.
PLAZA DE TOROS (BULLRING) DE LA MALAGUETA:
The Antonio Ordoñez Bullfighting Museum is found here. This bull-ring has space for 14,000 people.
PUENTE DE SANTO DOMINGO:
El conocido como Puente de los Alemanes debe su popular apodo a la gratitud que la colonia alemana tributa a la ciudad de Málaga por salvar de un naufragio a la tripulación de un barco de guerra de la marina alemana. Los hechos se remontan al 18 de diciembre de 1.900. Este hecho le valió a Málaga el título de Muy Hospitalaria que figura en su escudo.
SANTO DOMINGO BRIDGE:
Popularly Known as the Germans Bridge, it owes this name to the gratitude shown by the German colony to the city of Malaga for saving the crew of a German warship from a shipwreck. This happened on the 18th of December 1900 and gained Malaga the title “Muy Hospitalaria” or “very hospitable” found on its coat of arms.
VIRGEN DE LA VICTORIA SANCTUARY:
Built to house the image of the Virgin that had arrived with the court of the Catholic Kings and, after the conquest of the city in August 1478 became the patron of Malaga.
